Strategies for Public Safety Transformation - Alberta Crisis Management Perspective
Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Calgary, Alberta
November 6-7, 2002
Keynote Speakers
Keynote speaker was Tony Coles, former deputy mayor of New York City. Under Rudolph Giuliani, Coles was responsible for the city's emergency response to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre. Coles' insight into the capacity of the city to respond, and the intelligence that preceded the attacks, shed light on the need for clear planning and preparation, while his stories of individual heroism brought tears to some eyes.
Other featured speakers were: Hon. Wayne Easter, Solicitor General of Canada; Hon. Heather Forsyth, Solicitor General of Alberta; Hon. Guy Boutilier, Alberta Minister of Municipal Affairs; and Ward Elcock, Director, CSIS. Speakers also represented the Department of National Defence, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Criminal Intelligence Service Alberta, Calgary Police Service, Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, and Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC).
